As you and your parents grow older, the bond between parent and child must evolve as well. There are certain steps that can guarantee a good realtionship between you and your parent.
1) Always be respectful to your parents-even though you may not agree with them all the time it's important to show them respect because they are your parents
2) Avoid arguing with your parents-if arguing with your parents causes major conflicts then bite your tongue and try to avoid it. In the end it was probably not worth anything.
3) Be mature when talking to your parents-be fair and logical and show them that you are mature. Your parents will see you in a totally different light, as responsible young adults, and you won't need to worry about maintaining a healthy relationship with your parents.
4) Most importantly be honest with your parents. Although they may seem strict and unreasonable at times they love you and only want the best for you.

Another type of relationship that is very important to maintain is the one with friends. Your friends in high school define you. If you hang around the athletic kids, you're an athletic kid. If you hang around the musical prodigies, you are most likely one of them. Having good and supportive friends is essential in high school where peer pressure, bullying and addiction are prevalent.
Maintaining relationships with friends can be summed up by having truth, kindness and love in that relationship.
1) Show appreciation-Sometimes when you've had a friend for so long you'll take them for granted. It's always important to thank friends when they do something for you and to always return the favor.
2) Build trust-Don't gossip about your friend and go behind their back. Losing trust in a relationship can be one of the key factors in the end of that relationship.
3) Support each other when things get tough-Friends can have a hard time dealing with their own problems so it's important to demonstrate your support and love for your friend. Being a listener can also be helpful.
4) Handle arguments maturely-When you and your friend are in a fight don't lash out and yell at them. Talk about your problems calmly and try to come to a solution.

Relationships based on equality and respect are healthy. Relationships based on power and control are not. Abusive Relationships often start from the smallest of things which you are unaware about. However, possessiveness insults, jealous accusations, yelling, and abusive behaviors are all at the root of an unhealthy relationship.
If you think you are in an unhealthy relationship you need to think of your safety and move forward.
*Understand that you can't change the person you are with. You can't force your partner to alter their behavior if they don't think they're wrong.
*Your wellness is the most important thing. If you find your relationship draining you, consider ending it.
*Connect with your friends and family. Abusers are possessive and try to isolate their partners.
*Just break up. Remember that you deserve to feel safe and accepted in the relationship.
